Notes: Started brewing in 2016. A highly qualified Microbiologist, and an Exciseman with a passion for real ales and lagers got together to found Angles Ales. Objective: to brew beers and lagers with only natural ingredients in the old fashioned way.
Latest: August 2017: Peterborough and District CAMRA welcomes Angles Ales to an ever growing list of local breweries. Paul Dickinson and Dr Nicholas Ashley with additional hard graft from Graham Wesley, Matt Thomas and Steve Scallioin set up their “retirement project” of Angles Ales at the end of 2016 with the objective of brewing beers and lagers with only natural ingredients in the old fashioned way.
Once the duo had a few brews under their belts they enlisted the help of Graham Wesley and Matt Thomas to help grow a sustainable business from their beers. Graham helps on the brewing side and Matt assists Paul with the sales and marketing (he also built the website). But as a small and growing brewery they all pitch in across the business.
With a range of beers currently totalling six, one of their most popular and a founding beer of the brewery is Goat Tosser (4.4% abv), a medium brown old English best bitter. Brewed using Maris Otter, Light Crystal and Cara malts and a four-stage hopping process using Fuggles hops. Goat Tosser provides a well-balanced malty beer combining old English hops and the yeast esters from the fermentation process.
Three more beers soon followed, Doctors Orders, Feral Nun and Happy Paranoids. Happy Paranoids (3.7% abv) runs a close second to Goat Tosser in popularity. A pale ale old Scottish bitter, which is a very hoppy and bitter ale based on a William Younger 1851 recipe.
Feral Nun (5% abv) is the darker beer in the range, its dark ruby colour combined with roasted and torrified barley produce a “porteresque” type beer. The East Kent hops mellow the notes from the Maillard reaction.
Doctors Orders (5.9% abv) completed the initial line up of beers. This is a very old fashioned German-style Premium lager made from Pilsner, Maris Otter and flaked barleys fermented at a low temperature and lagered for six weeks. The malt flavour is augmented by Czech Saaz hops.
The two last beers in the current offering, Southgate Bitter (3.6% abv) which takes its name from the brewery location and HMS Glatton (7.4% abv) which is the brewery’s first IPA, are now both available.

----
Latest: September 2017: Nene Valley are extremely happy to have sold out of their beers at PBF 2017. A Beer Named LEEROY, their Festival Special, was very well received, as was their key cask version of Egyptian Cream. Incidentally, the brewery reports that, in some outlets that they supply, landlords are removing Guinness and replacing it with Egyptian Cream. The brewery has also advised that they would like to help with the Key Cask bar at the 2018 Peterborough Beer Festival, as they have some experience in running multiple key cask products simultaneously. The next beer in the Hop Stash range will be made using a relatively new American hop called Denali. This hop has pineapple, citrus and piny notes and has quite a high (4%) level of resins in the cones. There is to be a Nene Valley Tap Takeover at the Ostrich towards the end of September. Look out for the advertising locally. Two new collaboration brews with The Pint Shop are scheduled. The first, for the 1st Birthday of the Oxford outlet, is scheduled for Wednesday 6th September. The Cambridge outlet follows in early October where a beer featuring birthday cake in the recipe has been requested.
